Tinubu Establishes Ministry of Livestock Development to Address Herders-Farmers Clashes

President Bola Tinubu has announced the formation of the Ministry of Livestock Development.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, July 9, at the State House during the inauguration of the Renewed Hope Livestock Reform Implementation Committee.
This initiative aims to resolve the frequent conflicts between herders and farmers in Nigeria. The committee was established following a report from the National Conference on Livestock Reforms and Mitigation of Associated Conflicts in Nigeria.
Key figures at the inauguration included Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, and Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, among other cabinet members.
On September 15, 2023, President Tinubu had approved the establishment of a presidential committee to reform the livestock industry and provide long-term solutions to the recurring clashes between herders and farmers. As of now, a minister for the newly created ministry has not been appointed.
