Former Super Eagles coach Finidi George has been officially announced as the new head coach of Rivers United. George, 54, has signed a two-year contract with the club, with the unveiling ceremony held at Rivers United’s secretariat in Port Harcourt.
He succeeds Stanley Eguma, who was dismissed towards the end of last season. Rivers United, who finished eighth in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) last season, are counting on George to rejuvenate the team and restore their past glory.
George brings a wealth of experience, having previously led Enyimba to the NPFL championship in the 2022/2023 season. His background as a former Ajax winger and seasoned coach is expected to greatly benefit Rivers United as they aim to improve their league standings in the upcoming season.
