Breaking News: Russia Says Military Plane Crashed In Belgorod

A Russian Ilyushin Il-76 military transport plane carrying 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war crashed in Russia’s Belgorod region, according to Russian state media citing the Defence Ministry.

Russian strikes wounded nine in eastern Ukraine’s Kharkiv, the regional governor says, after a Russian missile barrage across the country that claimed more than a dozen lives.

The details about this crash remain sketchy, to say the least, and are being disputed between Moscow and Kyiv.

The plane is said to be an Ilyushin Il-76, a military transport plane that apparently has crashed near the city of Belgorod – close to the border between Ukraine and Russia.

The Russians say that on board this aircraft were a group of prisoners of war – Ukrainian prisoners of war.

That has been disputed by Kyiv. There’s been no official response yet from the Ukrainian side, but many different news websites are quoting their own security sources as saying that on board this aircraft were either parts for or missiles themselves for the S-300 system … which would suggest that it’s a legitimate target in Ukrainian terms.

We’re still waiting for official response here from the Ukrainian government.
