The Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC, on its official website yesterday announced that the Federal Government has extended the free rail services for commuters.
The NRC has updated its announcement, extending the free rail service until January 7, 2024, instead of the previously stated January 4. This means that passengers utilizing the NRC’s e-ticketing platform can enjoy complimentary train rides nationwide for the next three days.
“Dear Passengers, we’re delighted to inform you that, as directed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, train services will remain free of charge from December 21, 2023, to January 7, 2024. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!” – a message on the NRC website stated. It’s worth noting that on December 20, 2023, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had announced a 50% discount on transport fares for interstate travel and free commuter rides on all rail lines from December 2023 to January 4, 2024.
