World Athletics Debunks Claim Of Clearing Tobi Amusan.

Tobi Amusan

The World Athletics (WA) has debunked a media report that the 100m hurdle world record holder, Tobi Amusan, had been cleared to compete at next week’s World Championships holding in Budapest, Hungary.

The track and field governing body in a statement by its Head of Communications, Nicole Jeffery, said no decision had been taken on the Nigerian superstar. “Please be advised reports appearing in Nigeria that say Tobi Amusan has been cleared to compete in Budapest are wrong.“No decision has been made in this case yet. When a decision is made, it will be announced by the Athletics Integrity Unit,” the statement read.

World Athletics had added the World Record holder’s name to the entry list for Budapest, pending the outcome of AIU’s whereabouts failure charge against her. However, it appears that some sections of the media misinterpreted the inclusion of Amusan’s name on the entry list pending the AIU decision to mean that she had been cleared already. A decision is expected to be made before the commencement of the Championships.
