The crescent moon that marks the beginning of the month of Zil Hajj has been sighted in Saudi Arabia, according to the country’s Supreme Court.
According to the announcement, Zil Hajj will start on Monday, June 19th, 2023.
As a result, the annual Hajj trip will take place on Tuesday, June 27th, and Eid Al Adha will take place on Wednesday, June 28th.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is expected to make an announcement later today regarding their own crescent sighting.
Both the UAE and Saudi Arabia, as well as several other Gulf countries, traditionally observe Eid ul Fitr and Eid ul Adha on the same days.
The Sultan of Sokoto and President General Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar called on Muslims this Saturday to keep an eye out for the Zil Hajj crescent moon beginning on Sunday.
His directive was included in a statement signed by Prof. Sambo Junaidu, Chairman of the Sultanate Council, Sokoto’s Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs.
The Islamic calendar’s twelfth and final month is Zil Hajj.
It’s a special time for Muslims all over the world, as they conduct their yearly Hajj pilgrimage and celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir festival.
The Sultanate Council prayed that Allah would help all Muslims fulfill their religious obligations at this sacred period.
