At the early hours of today, renowned Nigerian chef Hilda Baci surpassed the record for “longest cooking time” by an individual.
Hilda, 27, achieved the record after surpassing Indian chef Lata Tandon, who in 2019 set a new “Guinness World Record” for continuously cooking for 87 hours and 45 minutes.
The chef, who was born in Akwa Ibom, broke the record on Monday, May 15, at 7:45 am.
Nigerian chef, Hilda Baci’s resilience, determination and zeal to cook 250 meals in her quest to break the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest cooking marathon has attracted a lot of attention from both fans and celebrities.
Recall that Baci would be cooking for four days to break a record currently held by Indian chef Lata Tondon, who was reported to have spent 87 hours, 45 minutes, and 00 seconds cooking in Rewa, India, in 2019.
Baci’s cook-a-thon began on May 11 at Amore Garden in Lekki, Lagos and set to conclude on 14th May.
To accomplish her aim, the chef is expected to cook round the clock without sleeping, with only an hour-long break to rest after every 12 hours of continuous cooking.
The project, tagged “Cook-a-thon,” gained the support of many Nigerians, including politicians and celebrities.
Yemi Osinbajo, the vice president of Nigeria, and Udom Emmanuel, the governor of Akwa Ibom, called her on the phone on Sunday to commend her and offer words of encouragement.
Similarly, Hilda received support from Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos State, who paid her a visit at the cooking site.
Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, both candidates for president, praised the record-breaking chef on Twitter.
