Security: FG Installs CCTV Cameras On Idu Rail Station Train Coaches

The Federal Government in a bid to tighten security around the train station has begun installing Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras on the Idu rail station train coaches ahead of the Abuja-Kaduna rail service resumption.

A rail station source confirmed to newsmen yesterday that contractors are on the ground ensuring that the cameras are installed on each rail coach.

The CCTV installation comes after postponement of Abuja-Kaduna rail services resumption.

Mu’azu Sambo, the Minister of Transportation, previously stated that train services halted since March after terrorists attacked and abducted passengers on the Abuja-Kaduna train would resume in a few days.

Meanwhile, last week it was reported that some contractors were at the Idu rail station to install the cameras and trackers but were unable to do so.

Journalists who were on site, however, reported on Tuesday that two of the initial three cameras had been fixed at the Idu station.

“However, the stations’ surroundings remained filled with dry grass,” according to a situation report.

They are mounting the DMU on the other side. They are fixing three cameras on each coach, making it six. There used to be four cameras on each coach but they put three there – two cameras by the side and one at the center,” a source within the Idu rail station told THE PUNCH.

However, when the news platform contacted the Nigerian Railway Corporation’s spokesperson, Yakubu Mahmood, he was unable to confirm the development.
