Zamfara Police Arrest Ex-soldier Supplying Gun To Terrorists In Northern Region

An ex-Nigerian soldier who was allegedly supplying ammunition to terrorists in northern regions has been apprehended, according to the Zamfara State Police Command.

The notorious gunrunner Sa’idu Lawal was arrested while traveling to Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State, to deliver a consignment of ammunition to one of his customers.

The former Nigerian Army Lance Corporal was apprehended with two rifles, a cache of ammunition, and eight empty magazines that he was transporting to his customer, according to Mohammed Shehu, the force spokesperson in Zamfara, who spoke with
reporters on Wednesday while parading the suspect in Gusau.

The PPRO said the former soldier has gone deep in the gunrunning business and has turned into a notorious kidnapper and armed robber.

SP Shehu said Lawal was intercepted in a Pontiac Vibe vehicle with Lagos registration number KRD 686 CY on the Abuja-Kaduna Highway on his way to Zamfara.

According to Shehu, operatives of the force recovered the following items from the former soldier: An AK-47 rifle, one AK-49 rifle, 200 rounds of 7.6mm live ammunition, 501 rounds of 7.62x51mm ammunition, and eight empty magazines.

The suspect admitted while being questioned, that he had been transporting the material from Loko Local Government Area in Nasarawa State to his customer, Dogo Hamza, in Bacha village in Tsafe Local Government Area in Zamfara, according to the police spokesman.

He said that Lawal afterward admitted to having previously given similar consignments to other customers in the states of Kaduna, Katsina, Niger, and Kebbi.

Shehu stated that an investigation had been launched by the police and that efforts were being made to apprehend Lawal’s aides.
