Resident Doctors Insist On FG Compliance To Their Demands

To avoid its planned statewide strike, the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, NARD has set a new condition in which they insist on FG compliance with their demands.

Dr. Alfa Yusuf, the NARD’s national publicity, said in an interview that, the association would call off its planned strike if the Federal Government met with its demands.

Following its meeting in Lafia, Nasarawa State, the group gave the government two weeks to abide by its demands, including ensuring the welfare of its members, in a communiqué issued by its NARD Dr. Dare Godiya Ishaya.

The doctors are also demanding the immediate implementation and payment of the new Hazard Allowance and arrears as contained in the circular from the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission.

Other demands include the payment of the skipping arrears for 2014, 2015, and 2016 to deserving members and immediate payment of consequential adjustment of the minimum wage to its members who have not benefitted since it was implemented several years ago.

In an interview with The PUNCH, the association’s spokesman, Yusuf, indicated that the union would convene at the expiration of the two-week ultimatum to discuss the points expressed in the communique that was issued following its National Executive Council meeting.

“We urge them to listen to us because we don’t want to also use this means[strike] to always receive our dues. If the issues are positively addressed, we will thank them and there might not be a need for us to meet again.
