The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and the party’s leadership must decide on a running mate as the deadline set by the nation’s electoral authority approaches.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set June 17th as the deadline for political parties to submit a list of all presidential candidates and their running mates.
INEC has cautioned political parties that it does not intend to extend the deadline for submitting the names of candidates and running mates, allowing the parties around six days to submit the list.
The PDP has formed a committee to advise on who should be chosen as Atiku’s running mate, according to sources.
Recall that the PDP formed a committee to advise on who should be chosen as Atiku’s running mate. Reports now indicate that the panel, which includes governors, National Working Committee members, former governors, and Board of Trustees members, will convene its last and conclusive meeting on Tuesday.
According to a reliable source, the panel deferred its final meeting to continue deliberations.
Other sources, have it that the party may make a final decision on the matter on Tuesday.
“Our presidential candidate will be part of the meeting on Tuesday and the major organs of the party are represented as well, so the decision there is as good as final. The announcement may be delayed to ratify the choice and of course, we will watch what the other parties will come up with,” one of the sources stated.
