Kyari’s Extradition Case To Be Heard In Court On Friday

The incarcerated Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, was given permission by a Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday to file fresh evidence in response to the Federal Government’s request to extradite him to the United States of America for trial.

In a motion on notice, Justice Inyang Ekwo granted Kyari’s plea filed through his lead lawyer, Nureni Jimoh (SAN).

During his argument for the motion on notice, Jimoh requested that the court allow Kyari to introduce further documentary exhibits to prove his innocence in the allegations brought against him.

Pius Akuta, the Federal Government’s Counsel, however, objected to the proposal.

In a brief ruling, Justice Ekwo overruled the Federal Government’s objection and granted Kyari to present further documentary evidence in his own defense.

According to the judge, the court would have plenty of time to evaluate the probate value to be attached to the fresh evidence.

Meanwhile, Justice Ekwo has set June 3 as the date for a definite hearing in the extradition case brought against Kyari by the Attorney General of the Federation on behalf of the Federal Government.

The complaint seeks to extradite Kyari to the United States at the request of the US government so that he can face trial for an alleged internet fraud committed by a Nigerian named Abdulraman Abbas, also known as Hushpuppi.
