In a tweet, Nigeria’s League Management disclosed the 79-year-old’s death writing: “Our condolences to the family of Maurice Cooreman following his passing in Belgium.”
“He will always be remembered as a legend in the NPFL, having played for a number of clubs and winning the title with Oceans Boys in 2006.”
The Belgian coached Enyimba, Ikorodu United, Ocean Boys, Warri Wolves, and Gombe United throughout his decades-long coaching career.
In 2006, Cooreman won the Nigerian title with the now-defunct Ocean Boys, but he was dismissed in September and rehired two weeks later.
From October 2006 to November 2008, he was the manager of Enyimba, then from April 2008 to April 2009, he was the manager of Bendel Insurance, Lobi Stars, and Gabros, as well as Kaduna United.
