Nsima Ekere, the former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
EFCC officials apprehended him on Wednesday amid corruption charges worth N47 billion.
During the 2019 general election, Ekere was the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Akwa Ibom State.
Wilson Uwajaren, a spokesperson for the EFCC, confirmed the arrest.
Between 2016 through 2018, Nsima, 56, was the NDDC’s Managing Director.
He is suspected of conspiracy in the awarding of contracts to NDCC contractors between 2017 and 2019.
