It followed public outcry over the menace of illegal car racing, acceleration contests, and speed competitions on public highways.
DSP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, announced this in an Abuja statement on Monday.
According to Adeh, the suspects were apprehended and the automobiles were seized in accordance with Regulation 228 of the Road Traffic Act, which prohibits illegal car races and other similar offenses.
She said: “I can confirm that we confiscated about 21 vehicles.
“Some of them ran and left their vehicles but we have four of them in our custody.
“This happened Sunday evening along Muhammadu Buhari way, at the NICON junction.
“They will face justice after serious investigation.
The enforcement team, led by Commissioner of Police in Charge of the FCT, Babaji, seized and impounded the automobiles on Sunday, according to the Public Relations Officer.
The PPRO said the suspects were arrested around Muhammadu Buhari way, by Nicon Insurance Area where they converged for business as usual.
The Police Command in the FCT had earlier ordered full enforcement of the prohibition of all kinds of car and speed races in the territory.
The CP directed all the Divisional Police Officers and their supervisory Area Commanders to ensure full enforcement of the prohibition in their Respective Area of Responsibility.
