When agents of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency searched notorious drug joints in Lagos, Abuja, Benue, and other regions of the country, they detained 663 suspected drug traffickers and users, including a fake policeman, a fake soldier, and a member of the National Youth Service Corps.
Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, claimed on Sunday that the operations resulted in the destruction or seizure of different illicit narcotics totaling over 153, 256.876 kilogrammes.
“In Lagos, the notorious drug hideout of Akala, in the Mushin region of the state, was stormed by a combined team of 70 NDLEA agents and 30 soldiers on Friday, October 15, in a joint operation called ‘Operation Still Waters.’ A total of 27 people were detained, and substances including cocaine, heroin, tramadol, Rohypnol, and cannabis weighing a total of 2,463.876kg were seized.
“A day earlier, the operatives raided drug dens in the Ojo and Maryland areas of the state, arresting six people and seizing various quantities of drugs.”
Another raid on Alhaji Lasisi Street, Idioro, Mushin, and Okota in the Oshodi-Isolo area of the state resulted in the arrest of 12 individuals and the recovery of over 165kg of various illicit narcotics.
“On Friday, October 15, operatives in Ogun State intercepted one Williams Esuabom on the Ore-Sagamu Expressway with 562.5kg cannabis being transported in a Toyota Sienna, while narcotic officers in Benue State raided Lafia Park, where six suspects, including a youth corps member, Paul Ndubuisi, were arrested with various quantities of drugs in a joint operation with soldiers.”
“On Wednesday, October 13, a suspected phony soldier, Abel John, was apprehended carrying 3.5kg cannabis along the Apir-Makurdi-Aliade Road.
“A suspected fake Assistant Superintendent of Police, Joshua Yusuf, was caught on the Gwagwalada Expressway in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory while transporting 45.5kg of cannabis.”
Brig. Gen. Mohammed Marwa (retd. ), Chairman and Chief Executive of the NDLEA, urged for ongoing collaboration between the agency and other stakeholders, particularly the armed forces and other law enforcement organizations.
