UNIZIK Female Undergraduate Killed In A Gas Explosion

Precious, a female student at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Anambra State, has been killed in a gas explosion.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Thursday in one of the university’s off-campus hostels in Ifite, Awka.
The inferno is said to have injured some of the occupants of the hostel.
“The young lady was caught by a collapsed wall of the building as a result of the explosion and was burned beyond recognition,” a source added.
“The hostel is mostly occupied by UNIZIK students that live away from school.”
Obinna Anyanwu, a resident, said the explosion was caused by one of the building’s occupants who was frying with a gas cooker in her room.
“When the incident occurred, one of the residents was frying popcorn in the room,” he stated. The majority of the hostel rooms were harmed, and property was destroyed.
“We tried to put out the fire ourselves, but we couldn’t until the fire department arrived.” We also attempted to rescue the girl trapped by the crumbled wall, but were unable to do so until she died.”
Ikenga Tochukwu, the state Police Public Relations Officer, verified the incident and said the inquiry was still underway.
