Ikeja Disco: Lagos Communities Should Expect An Eight-week Blackout

Residents in some sections of Lagos State will be without power for eight weeks as Ikeja Electric, IE, prepares to reconduct 132kv lines.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, will undertake the re-conducting in order to increase wheeling capacity across the IE network.
Customers in Oregun, Anifowoshe, Ojodu, Magodo, Omole, Oba-Akran, Oke-Ira, Ogba, Omole Phase 1 and sections of Ikeja will be affected by the improvement.
Residents in this area will also be subjected to daily blackouts between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. for eight weeks, according to reports.
“The TCN is currently commencing on the upgrade of 132 KV lines from Ikeja West to Ota, and this activity is split into four stages,” stated Mr. Jide Kumapayi, IE’s Chief Technical Officer. This is the second stage, and TCN is replacing the 132kv lines with more robust and sophisticated replacements that allow for increased power evacuation and greater customer supply while also providing exceptional conductor capacity that can handle extremely high voltage.”
Kumapayi also noted that IE Technicians will be on standby to provide support wherever technical interventions are required for the duration of the upgrade, especially between the hours of 6 pm and 8 am when supply will be available to customers.
“Even though this is a TCN project, we owe it to our consumers to keep them informed because we interact with them on a regular basis. At the end of the day, we feel it will benefit our customers and will allow Ikeja Electric to invest more in our network to increase power delivery to customers on our network. So we’d like to ask our consumers to bear with us because this exercise will help us improve our network’s power supply,” he explained.
