Gozie Nwagba, a former Imo State politician, had his rural home wrecked by gun-wielding hoodlums.
Many people were forced to escape their houses as a result of the tragedy, which occurred in the Obor community in the Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State.
Nwagbo was a member of the Orlu Legislative Council in the past.
Apart from burning down the politician’s home, it was reported that the terrorists kidnapped five members of the community.
They also set fire to the home of Raphael Ekezie, the community’s traditional ruler.
Precious Nwadike, a native of the area and the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists’ Caretaker Committee in the state, issued a statement condemning the killings and wanton damage of property in the area and called for a stop to the violence.
“I awoke this morning (Saturday) to learn of another arson attack in the Obor community, in which arsonists razed the homes of Rt. Hon. Nwagba Gozie, a former leader of the Orlu Legislative Council, and HRH Eze Ralph Ekezie.
“This isn’t the Orlu we imagined. It’s past time for those of us who are still aware of our obligations to start asking questions. Omekagu Darlington, a talented lawyer, was shot dead at close range by unknown assailants a few weeks earlier. In addition to the burning of houses in Obor, five persons were kidnapped today. Is it better if we all die in silence?”
