Dickson Rallies NDC Leaders to Resolve Internal Crisis

As preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum, leaders of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) have moved to ease internal tensions and strengthen party unity ahead of the polls.

National leader of the party, Henry Seriake Dickson, on Thursday urged members to put aside public disagreements and focus on positioning the NDC as a credible alternative to the ruling government.

Dickson spoke after a closed-door meeting in Abuja with the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and other prominent stakeholders, including Victor Umeh and Pat Utomi.

The meeting, which lasted about three hours, reviewed recent developments within the party and addressed issues that had sparked concerns among members in recent weeks.

According to Dickson, all matters discussed during the session were resolved amicably.

“In the course of that meeting, we reviewed the activities of our party and discussed a few recent issues that have been a source of concern to all sides, and we amicably resolved all the issues,” he said.

The former Bayelsa State governor noted that while differences of opinion may exist on certain issues, party leaders remain aligned on the broader goal of winning elections and offering Nigerians an alternative platform.

“We have always been on the same page on the bigger picture, that is winning the elections for all candidates of our party and rescuing Nigeria from the misgovernance of the APC-led government,” he stated.

Dickson urged party members to refrain from actions and comments that could deepen divisions within the NDC.

“Nigerians are looking up to us to provide credible alternatives to the current governance challenges. I want to use this opportunity again to call on all members of our party to stop the bickering and name-calling and focus on the bigger picture,” he added.

He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to strengthening its internal structures, promoting unity, and advancing what he described as the “New Nigerian Project.”

The meeting comes amid reports of internal disagreements following Obi’s emergence as the party’s presidential flagbearer, as well as ongoing consultations among stakeholders ahead of the 2027 elections.

Party leaders who attended the meeting reportedly pledged to continue working together to consolidate the NDC’s position as one of Nigeria’s leading opposition platforms.
