2027: Kwankwaso Rejects North-North Ticket, Warns Against Division

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has firmly rejected the possibility of a North-North presidential ticket for the 2027 elections, warning that such an arrangement could undermine national unity and democratic balance.

The position was conveyed by his spokesperson, Habibu Saleh, during an interview, where he dismissed speculations of a potential alliance between Kwankwaso and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar that could produce a same-region ticket.

“I don’t think that is realistic. We must be sensitive enough to present a ticket that reflects balance between North and South,” Saleh said.

He cautioned that any same-region or same-religion ticket would deepen divisions and weaken democratic values, stressing that Nigerians expect fairness and inclusiveness in leadership selection.

Saleh also pushed back against claims attributed to Atiku suggesting that Kwankwaso’s political relevance is limited to Kano State, describing the assertion as inaccurate.

“It is a serious understatement for anybody to say that the relevance of my principal is only in Kano. The figures from the last election clearly show otherwise,” he stated.

Highlighting Kwankwaso’s performance in the 2023 presidential election, Saleh noted that the former Kano governor secured about 906,000 votes in Kano alone, alongside roughly 500,000 votes from other parts of the country despite contesting on a relatively less-established platform without the backing of major political structures.

He argued that the outcome demonstrates Kwankwaso’s growing national appeal and reinforces the need for a balanced and inclusive political strategy ahead of the 2027 elections.
