The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has taken a swipe at Nentawe Yilwatda, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), over his assertion that there will be “no vacancy in Aso Rock” come 2027.
Yilwatda made the comment on Tuesday while addressing party members at the APC national secretariat in Abuja, but in a strong rebuttal on Wednesday, Bolaji Abdullahi, ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, described the statement as “arrogant” and insensitive to the current plight of Nigerians.
“The presidency is not a hereditary office but a mandate that must be renewed through performance,” Abdullahi said in a statement.
He warned that Yilwatda’s comment reflects a dangerous disregard for democratic accountability and insults the electorate already burdened by hunger, joblessness, insecurity, and inflation.
“To declare no vacancy two years ahead is to mock Nigerians struggling with hardship. The APC may wish to avoid facing the ballot, but elections are not optional.”
The ADC stressed that President Bola Tinubu must re-earn the people’s mandate in 2027 by proving that his administration has delivered on key fronts such as youth employment, security, economic stability, electricity supply, and justice.
Abdullahi stated that contrary to APC’s self-congratulatory narratives, the reality on the ground paints a grim picture:
“Food prices are soaring, bandits are overrunning communities, and the naira remains battered. APC media operatives may award themselves medals, but Nigerians will be the final judges.”
He concluded by affirming that there will indeed be a vacancy at the Presidential Villa in 2027 and that Nigerians will decide who deserves to lead them.
“The APC must reapply for the job. They do not get to mark their own scripts,” he said.
