According to reports, the former terrorists and their family members include 22 males, 27 females, and 55 children.
The development was announced on Monday morning via the Nigerian Army Headquarters’ social media page.
The post reads, “ISWAP and their families numbering 104 comprising 22 males, 27 females and 55 children surrendered to troops of 25 Task Force Brigade Damboa, Borno State on Saturday 5 February 2022.”
The recent development comes just a week after the Nigerian military killed several ISWAP leaders and fighters in Marte District, Borno State.
Terrorists were neutralized by soldiers from the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) and Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) during massive airstrikes on their camps in Gamboru, Abbaganaram, Bukar Mairam, and Jubularam, according to reports.
It was learned that ISWAP leadership is currently evacuating the dead bodies of the terrorists killed by the Nigerian military.
Meanwhile, the Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum has warned that terrorists loyal to ISWAP must not be allowed to spread their tentacles in Nigeria.
This is as he cautioned that ISWAP is more dangerous and deadlier than the Boko Haram insurgents. He added that the group is more educated and has access to more funds and other international terrorist organizations.
Speaking on Thursday in a chat with newsmen on the state on internal security, relocation of IDPs, and collaborations between the state and the federal government at the presidential villa in Abuja, Zulum submitted that if the military does not crush the ISWAP fighters now, it can lead to greater trouble for the north-east region and the entire country.
The Borno State Governor warned that ISWAP can cause more havoc than what Boko Haram has done, hence the need to shut them down before they grow too big.
