Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has dismissed reports suggesting he is planning to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing them as baseless fabrications by political mischief makers.
In a statement issued on Friday by his Senior Special Adviser on Media, Mustapha Jafaru Kaura, and shared through the Facebook page of the Governor’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Mugira Yusuf, Lawal said the rumours were part of a recurring pattern of falsehoods aimed at creating confusion.
“The rumor was concocted by mischief makers, and this is not the first time such an insinuation is being made. But outrightly, it’s not true,” Kaura stated.
He reaffirmed that Governor Lawal remains committed to the PDP and focused on fulfilling his mandate to the people of Zamfara rather than engaging in political distractions.
The denial comes amid heightened political realignments across Nigeria following recent high-profile defections. In the past week, Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah and Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri both announced their departure from the PDP, with Mbah joining the APC alongside his cabinet members.
Diri, however, has yet to formally declare his next political move, sparking further speculation. Reports have also suggested that Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas might be considering a similar switch, though no official confirmation has been made.
