World Leaders React as Donald Trump Wins U.S. Presidential Election, Pledging Renewed Alliances and Cooperation

World leaders have begun congratulating Donald Trump on his victory in the U.S. presidential election, marking a new chapter in global diplomatic relations.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who had a tense relationship with President Joe Biden, described Trump’s win as “history’s greatest comeback” and a “new beginning” for U.S.-Israel relations. Senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri urged Trump to fulfill his pledge to swiftly end conflicts, calling on him to learn from Biden’s mistakes.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed his eagerness to collaborate, emphasizing the enduring “special relationship” between the U.K. and U.S., particularly in areas of growth, security, and innovation. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, a longtime Trump supporter, hailed the win as a “much-needed victory for the world,” describing it as the “biggest comeback in U.S. political history.”

French President Emmanuel Macron extended his congratulations and emphasized cooperation “for more peace and prosperity,” while noting recent discussions with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on safeguarding European interests alongside the U.S. Scholz echoed Macron’s sentiments, highlighting Germany and the U.S.’s shared commitment to prosperity and freedom.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that Trump’s leadership would be essential to a strong alliance, expressing a desire to continue advancing “peace through strength” under NATO’s mission.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed Trump’s commitment to “peace through strength,” suggesting it could bring a “just peace” for Ukraine closer, though there are concerns about potential reductions in U.S. military support.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni underscored the “unshakable alliance” between the U.S. and Italy, while Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez affirmed his commitment to strengthening the transatlantic partnership.

Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also congratulated Trump, with von der Leyen emphasizing that the EU and U.S. are “more than just allies.”
