The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Wednesday met with the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike.
Tinubu was accompanied by Tony Okocha, a former Chief of Staff, Rivers State Government House; the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu; Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, former Ekiti State governor, Kayode Fayemi; and erstwhile National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole; visited Governor Wike at Government House shortly after his Rivers campaign rally. His visit to the aggrieved opposition governor comes on the back of widely-circulated rumours that Wike is covertly backing the APC candidate.
Wike, a top member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had refused to support his party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. He, along with four governors of the PDP, hinged their refusal to support Atiku on the imbalance in the party’s leadership. They had demanded the resignation of Iyorchia Ayu as the National Chairman of the PDP as a condition for backing Atiku and since then they have been at a loggerhead. Wike in the meeting with Tinubu said “I’m not campaigning against you neither I am campaigning for you”
