Wike Dismisses Health Rumours, Defends Public Appearances with Son

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has refuted circulating rumours about his ill health, affirming that he is “perfectly fine and full of energy.” He also addressed criticism over accompanying his son to public events, insisting there is nothing improper in his actions.

In an interview with BBC Pidgin scheduled to air Saturday evening, the former Rivers State Governor laughed off reports that he had collapsed at a Presidential Villa function in April and traveled abroad for urgent medical care.

“As I’m talking to you, do I look like somebody that is sick? Looking at me, will you think I’m above 30 years? I’m very well,” Wike said.

He went on to defend his frequent public appearances alongside his son both domestically and internationally after critics accused him of grooming the youth for politics.

“What’s wrong with that?” Wike replied when asked about his intentions.

Despite reports in April that he had fainted at an event in the Presidential Villa and subsequently flown abroad, Wike reappeared lively just days later during a Sallah visit with President Bola Tinubu, further dispelling concerns about his wellness.
