“We Failed You” — Plateau Governor Issues Public Apology

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has issued a heartfelt apology to the residents of Kimakpa village in Miango District, Bassa Local Government Area, where more than 50 people were killed in a recent bandit attack.

The deadly assault, which occurred less than two weeks after similar invasions across five communities in Bokkos and Mangu LGAs on April 2, has plunged the state into mourning and heightened insecurity fears.

During a condolence visit on Tuesday to Ronku Aka, the paramount ruler of Irigwe land, Governor Mutfwang expressed deep sorrow and openly admitted the government’s failure in preventing the tragedy.

“I will tell you the truth — I have been crying since yesterday because I had trusted God that all the arrangements were put in place, that this will not happen again. We have made investments in security,” Mutfwang said.

He acknowledged that despite steps taken to improve security, the measures ultimately fell short.

“But like all human arrangements, sometimes they fail. I want to admit that on Sunday night into Monday morning, we failed you. Please, forgive me,” he added.

The governor vowed to intensify efforts to prevent future attacks and bring the perpetrators to justice. He urged communities to work closely with authorities in sharing intelligence and maintaining vigilance.

“Security is everyone’s responsibility. We are working to reinforce intelligence gathering and rapid response, but we need communities to remain alert and cooperative,” Mutfwang stated.

His remarks come at a time of growing public frustration over repeated violent attacks in Plateau, with mounting calls for both state and federal governments to implement more effective protective measures.
