Washington Governor Jay Inslee has mobilized National Guard members to address election security concerns following recent arson attacks on ballot boxes, including a fire in Vancouver that destroyed hundreds of ballots. Inslee announced the activation on Friday, citing both specific incidents and broader fears of potential election-related violence.
In a public statement, Inslee explained the precautionary measure was taken to ensure that officials are “fully prepared to respond” to any disruptions as millions of Washington residents have already cast their votes, according to University of Florida’s Election Lab data.
The move comes as Washington, a traditionally Democratic state expected to lean towards Vice President Kamala Harris over Republican candidate Donald Trump, faces heightened security concerns to safeguard the voting process.
