Utility Companies Warn of Potential Power Outages as Winter Storm Approaches

Electricity and natural gas providers across several states are warning customers to prepare for possible power outages as heavy snow and ice move into the region.

Dominion Energy said it is bracing for significant and widespread outages in Virginia and North Carolina due to ice accumulation and snowfall. The company cautioned that if service is disrupted, restoration could take several days.

In Massachusetts, National Grid warned that snow buildup could weigh down power lines and tree limbs, increasing the risk of outages. The company said it is deploying additional crews to areas expected to be hardest hit.

Eversource, which serves customers in Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Hampshire, said it does not currently anticipate major system impacts but has extra crews on standby to respond if outages occur.

Con Edison, which provides power to New York City and surrounding communities, said it is mobilizing crews and coordinating with local emergency management officials ahead of the storm.

Utility providers are urging residents to take precautions, including staying away from downed power lines, fully charging electronic devices, and stocking up on essential supplies. Customers with generators are also advised to test and connect them before the storm arrives.
