Trump to Headline July Fourth Celebration in Washington Despite Extreme Heat

President Donald Trump is set to headline Washington, D.C.’s Independence Day celebrations on Saturday with a rally and patriotic address ahead of the capital’s annual fireworks display, despite forecasts of extreme heat.

The “Salute to America 250 Celebration & Fireworks” event is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., with temperatures expected to feel as high as 107 degrees Fahrenheit, according to weather forecasts.

Trump indicated earlier this week that the scorching conditions would not alter his plans.

“It’s going to be approximately 107 degrees out, and I’m going to go, and I’m going to make a really long speech just to show that I can do anything,” the president told reporters on Wednesday.

According to the official event schedule released by the Freedom 250 initiative, Trump is expected to deliver his remarks at approximately 9:45 p.m., shortly before the Independence Day fireworks.

Specific details of the president’s speech have not been released.

The Freedom 250 initiative, launched by the White House in December, is organizing the celebration as part of activities marking the nation’s 250th anniversary. It operates separately from America250, the congressionally established commission responsible for coordinating the broader national commemoration.

Thousands of spectators are expected to attend the celebration on the National Mall, where officials have urged attendees to prepare for dangerous heat by staying hydrated, seeking shade when possible and following public health guidance throughout the evening.

The event is expected to culminate with a fireworks display over the nation’s capital, continuing a longstanding Independence Day tradition while launching broader celebrations leading up to America’s 250th anniversary.
