Trump Says U.S. Struck Venezuelan Dock Used for Drug Trafficking Operations

President Donald Trump said Monday that the United States carried out a strike on a dock in Venezuela that he claimed was being used to load drugs onto boats, escalating his administration’s campaign against alleged drug trafficking operations linked to the country.

Trump first referenced the action during a radio interview last Friday, saying the U.S. had “knocked out” a major facility in Venezuela as part of efforts to disrupt narcotics trafficking routes. He repeated and expanded on those remarks Monday, though he did not provide independent confirmation or specific details.

“And we just knocked out — I don’t know if you read or saw — they have a big plant or a big facility where the ships come from,” Trump said on WABC’s Cats and Cosby. “Two nights ago we knocked that out, so we hit them very hard.”

If Trump’s account is accurate, the strike would represent the first known U.S. attack on a land-based target inside Venezuela since the administration launched its intensified anti-narcotics campaign against the country.

Later Monday, while welcoming Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, Trump was pressed by reporters to clarify whether the action was carried out by the U.S. military. The question followed Trump’s earlier confirmation that he had authorized the Central Intelligence Agency to operate inside Venezuela.

“Well, it doesn’t matter,” Trump said in response. “But there was a major explosion in the dock area where they load the boats up with drugs. They load the boats up with drugs. So we hit all the boats, and now we hit the area. That’s the implementation area — and that is no longer around.”

The White House has not released additional details about the alleged strike, and Venezuelan officials have not publicly commented on Trump’s claims.
