Tinubu Sets Up APC Panel to Tackle Party Disputes Ahead of 2027

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has inaugurated a committee on strategy, conflict resolution, and mobilisation to address disputes within the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the party prepares for the 2027 general election.

According to Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, the committee was inaugurated in Lagos on Wednesday. It comprises APC governors, federal cabinet members, and key stakeholders, with Mai Mala Buni, governor of Yobe State, serving as chairman, and Muiz Banire, former APC legal adviser, as member/secretary.

Other notable members include:

  • Adamu Aliero, Senator (Kebbi)
  • AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Governor of Kwara and NGF Chairman
  • Hope Uzodimma, Governor of Imo and Progressives Governors’ Forum Chairman
  • Governors: Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Bassey Otu (Cross River), Abiodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Uba Sani (Kaduna), Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers)
  • Ministers: Adegboyega Oyetola (Marine & Blue Economy), Bello Matawalle (State for Defence)
  • Former Governor: Yahaya Bello (Kogi)

At the inauguration, Buni pledged the committee’s commitment to its mandate, emphasizing inclusivity and proactive conflict resolution. “We shall implement a system that gives everyone, especially aggrieved parties, a sense of belonging and inclusion, with a renewed hope,” he said.

The committee is tasked with developing a results-oriented strategy to unify the party and address potential threats while prioritizing the general interest over personal sentiments.

President Tinubu, speaking at the APC’s 15th NEC meeting on December 19 in Abuja, stressed the need for party cohesion and tolerance. “We must continue to be resolute that this democracy that we take in our hands must not fail… But it should now be in our hearts to be accommodating. That’s the only way we can be resilient; we must be tolerant,” he said.
