Tinubu Promises Steady Power Supply, Infrastructure Boost

Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering stable electricity to support economic growth, industrialisation, and national development.

The President gave the assurance on Thursday during the commissioning of key projects in Bayelsa State, including a 60-megawatt Independent Power Project (IPP) in Elebele, Ogbia Local Government Area.

Acknowledging existing challenges in the power sector, Tinubu expressed confidence that ongoing reforms and investments would yield results.

“There can be no industrialisation, skill development and empowerment without power; that is a vision. I assure Nigerians that we will have electricity to power our growth,” he said.

Other projects commissioned include the 27-kilometre dualised New Yenagoa City Road 1, the 630-metre Angiama-Oporoma Bridge, and the Sagbama/Ekeremor Road, all aimed at improving connectivity and economic activities in the state.

At a stakeholders’ meeting, the President observed a minute’s silence in honour of soldiers killed in a recent terrorist attack on a military base in Borno State. He also paid tribute to former President Goodluck Jonathan, describing him as “the most humble and reliable democrat on the continent.”

Tinubu commended Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri for what he described as progressive leadership, noting that the projects would enhance job creation and expand economic opportunities.

“Development advances further, faster when the federal government and the state government work in partnership and towards a shared purpose,” he said.

Responding to the governor’s request for reimbursement on federal roads executed by the state, Tinubu remarked humorously, “I heard you, Douye. Federal road, okay, I will take it with me when I’m going.”

On security, the President reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to tackle terrorism and banditry.

“We will continue to equip and train our men and women of the armed forces. We will defeat terrorism and banditry, regardless of their shenanigans,” he said.

Tinubu stressed that governance must translate into tangible benefits such as infrastructure, job creation, and improved living standards. He also addressed concerns over the impact of the Middle East crisis on petrol prices, assuring that efforts are ongoing to ease the burden on Nigerians.

“This is a government that cares. We look at the numbers, the finance, the economy, planning and budget, and we see what we can do to ease the burden,” he said.

In his remarks, Governor Diri appealed for federal reimbursement for roads constructed by the state under his “Assured Prosperity” programme, highlighting projects designed to improve accessibility and development. He described the Yenagoa–Oporoma–Ukubie Road as a long-awaited intervention that has ended years of isolation for communities in Southern Ijaw.

The newly commissioned power facility, powered by gas turbines, is expected to boost energy security by reducing reliance on the national grid while supplying electricity to Yenagoa and surrounding communities.

The event was attended by top government officials, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Governors Hope Uzodimma, Umo Eno, Sheriff Oborevwori, and Dapo Abiodun.

Expressing optimism about the nation’s future, Tinubu called for sustained cooperation across all levels of government.

“Nigeria will be great, and we will succeed,” he said.
