Tinubu Nominates Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of State for Finance.

The nomination was conveyed to the Senate for confirmation in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, according to a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Oyedele will replace Doris Uzoka-Anite, who has been redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State—her third portfolio under the current administration.

Before his nomination, Oyedele served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he led efforts to overhaul Nigeria’s tax system. A seasoned economist, accountant, and public policy expert, he previously worked for 22 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), rising to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader.

Oyedele holds a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology and a BSc in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University. He has also completed executive education programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School. He is a professor at Babcock University in Ogun State and a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.

His appointment follows the enactment of four major tax reform bills he helped design: the Nigeria Tax Bill, the Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill, and the Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Bill. The laws, which took effect on January 1, 2026, are aimed at transforming tax administration, boosting revenue generation, improving the business environment, and attracting investment.

The nomination now awaits Senate confirmation.
