President Bola Tinubu on Friday, March 14, declared that Nigeria is now safer compared to 2023, citing security improvements under his administration.
Speaking during a meeting with a delegation of Catholic Bishops at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu highlighted the progress made in tackling insecurity. The delegation was led by the President of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), Archbishop Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, alongside Bishop Emeritus of Abuja Archdiocese, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, and Bishop Mathew Kukah.
The presidency credited the improved security to the efforts of the military, security agencies, and Tinubu’s leadership.
“In the last two years, over 8,000 criminals – bandits, armed robbers, Boko Haram terrorists, and kidnappers – have been eliminated, and over 10,000 Nigerians – primarily women and children – have been rescued from their abductors,” the presidency stated.
It also noted that improved security, particularly in the North-West and North-East, has allowed farmers to return to their fields, leading to increased food production and a reduction in the prices of essential commodities.
The meeting provided a platform for the bishops to engage the president on governance and security concerns affecting Nigerians.
