President Bola Ahmed Tinubu departed Abuja today for official visits to Saint Lucia and Brazil, aimed at boosting South-South cooperation and participating in the 17th BRICS Summit.
According to Presidential Adviser Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s first stop will be Saint Lucia, where he is expected to deepen diplomatic and economic relations with the Caribbean nation. During the visit, he will hold talks with Governor-General Cyril Errol Melchiades Charles and Prime Minister Philip Pierre, and address a joint session of the Senate and House of Assembly at the William Jefferson Clinton Ballroom, Sandals Grande, Gros Islet.
The president will also engage with senior government officials, members of the diplomatic community, and Nigerians residing in Saint Lucia. A luncheon with leaders of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) will explore opportunities for closer partnership between Nigeria and the Caribbean bloc.
From Saint Lucia, President Tinubu will proceed to Brazil for the 17th BRICS Summit, scheduled for July 6–7, 2025, in Rio de Janeiro.
The summit, themed “Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance,” will focus on enhancing collaboration among developing nations in economic development, climate action, and social inclusion.
President Tinubu is accompanied by a delegation of senior government officials on the two-nation diplomatic mission.
