Vice-President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s dedication to revitalizing Nigeria’s economy through bold policies and transformative initiatives.
Shettima made this assertion on Friday during a meeting with Mark Maloney, chairman of the trustee of the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International, at the State House in Abuja.
Stanley Nkwocha, the vice-president’s spokesperson, quoted Shettima describing Tinubu as a revolutionary leader committed to advancing Nigeria’s development through unprecedented decisions.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is fully committed to repositioning the Nigerian nation. He is a revolutionary leader who has made far-reaching decisions for the betterment of this country—decisions unmatched in contemporary history,” Shettima stated.
The vice-president emphasized the federal government’s focus on education as a key driver of economic and social change, especially for Nigeria’s youthful population.
“Education is the ultimate game changer. Within a generation, the son of a pauper can become a celebrated icon. Ours is a young nation, with an average age of 16.9 years. Education gives us the greatest opportunity to engage these young ones,” he said.
Shettima also highlighted the importance of environmental initiatives like the Great Green Wall and urged Rotary International to join in combating environmental challenges.
Mark Maloney, speaking on behalf of Rotary International, lauded Nigeria’s progress in healthcare, particularly the eradication of wild poliovirus. He noted that Rotary Foundation had invested $34 million in health-related projects in Nigeria over the past year.
“We are pleased with Nigeria’s collaboration with Rotary, WHO, UNICEF, and other global organizations to address vaccine-derived poliovirus,” Maloney added.
Ali Pate, Nigeria’s coordinating minister of health and social welfare, commended the philanthropic efforts of Rotary International and the Sir Emeka Offor Foundation, highlighting the importance of their $5 million donation to tackle maternal mortality.
Pate reiterated the government’s commitment to reducing maternal mortality and acknowledged Offor’s continued contributions to federal hospitals.
Sir Emeka Offor pledged unwavering support for the government’s healthcare initiatives under the Renewed Hope Agenda, emphasizing the need to make health services affordable and accessible across Nigeria.
“We want to ensure that the intentions of the present government are actualized,” Offor stated, reaffirming his dedication to improving healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
