Tinubu Appoints Aisha Garba as UBEC Executive Secretary

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has named Aisha Garba, an international development expert, as the Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).

Garba, a Senior Education Specialist at the World Bank, has over 24 years of experience implementing transformative education programs across Nigeria, Ghana, Somalia, Kenya, the USA, and the UK.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, announced the appointment in a statement. He highlighted Garba’s vast expertise in human development, her extensive network with governments and development partners, and her ability to craft sustainable solutions in basic education, even in conflict-prone areas.

Garba’s career includes working on Nigeria’s successful Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) initiatives and consulting for international organizations such as the World Bank, DFID, BOND-UK, Regent Foundation, and Muslim Aid Organization.

An alumna of Petra American University in Jordan, Garba holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Computer Studies and earned a Master’s degree in International Development from the University of Birmingham, UK.

Onanuga stated that President Tinubu envisions Garba advancing his administration’s goal of providing high-quality education and equipping Nigerian children to compete on the global stage.
