President Bola Tinubu has acknowledged the growing hardship Nigerians are facing as petrol prices continue to rise, while assuring citizens that his administration is working on measures to ease the pressure.
Speaking on Friday during the inauguration of projects in Bayelsa State, Tinubu said he understands the public’s concerns over the rising cost of living.
“The fuel price is biting hard,” the President said, while urging Nigerians to remain hopeful despite the economic challenges.
Tinubu noted that Nigeria is not alone in facing economic difficulties, pointing to similar struggles in other African countries. “We will continue to find ways to ameliorate the suffering of the vulnerable,” he added.
He also linked part of the hardship to global economic disruptions, including international conflicts affecting energy markets, saying the effects of worldwide events are being felt locally.
Since taking office in May 2023, Tinubu’s government has rolled out major economic reforms, including removing the petrol subsidy and allowing the naira to float. Although aimed at long-term stability, the policies have increased inflation and worsened living costs for many Nigerians.
Petrol prices have now risen above ₦1,200 per litre, further deepening the financial strain on households across the country.
