Shehu Sani to North: Support Tinubu in 2027, South West Deserves Full Term

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has urged Northern Nigerians to back President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, arguing that the South West deserves to complete its constitutionally expected eight-year term in power.

Speaking to journalists in Kaduna on Monday, Sani applauded the current administration’s performance and criticised past northern-led governments for failing to improve the region despite holding the reins of power.

“For those of us from this part [North] of the country, we appreciate the progress made so far by this present government,” Sani stated.

“Those who had the opportunity to do better and failed should apologise for the wrong they have done to the people of the North.”

He cautioned the North against falling into tribal or political incitement, stressing that the Tinubu-led administration has arguably done more for the region than its northern predecessors.

Sani recalled the South West’s political support for Northern presidents in the past including Umar Musa Yar’Adua and Muhammadu Buhari noting that the region never obstructed their time in office.

“The Northwest has produced two Presidents since 1999… The South West supported the North without resistance. It is only fair we reciprocate.”

Calling for equity and balance, Sani argued that if a viable opposition candidate must arise, they too should come from the South West.

He also took aim at the last administration for its failure to end insecurity across the North despite dominating the national security structure:

“They never stopped terrorism in the North, they never stopped banditry in the Northwest, and they never stopped killings in Benue, Plateau, and most parts of the North Central.”

Sani’s remarks contribute to the growing political discourse surrounding the 2027 general elections, as regional blocs begin to position themselves for influence and leadership.
