Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, has announced that the handover process for ministries affected by President Bola Tinubu’s recent cabinet reshuffle will be completed by October 30. These changes, aimed at streamlining government operations, include the merging, renaming, and dissolving of several ministries.
One notable change is the merging of the Federal Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy to form the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy. Additionally, the Federal Ministry of Sports Development will be dissolved, with its responsibilities transferred to the National Sports Commission.
Senator Akume emphasized that outgoing ministers must hand over to permanent secretaries to ensure a seamless transition. In ministries without new ministerial appointments, permanent secretaries will oversee operations until Senate confirmations are made. The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and the Head of Civil Service are overseeing the restructuring process, ensuring all directives are carried out smoothly.
The Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs will be renamed the Ministry of Regional Development, expanding its mandate to include oversight of regional development commissions such as the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the South East Development Commission (SEDC). All changes will take effect by October 30.
