Severe Storms Leave Trail of Damage Across Tri-State, Knocking Down Trees and Cutting Power

Residents across the Tri-State area woke up to fallen trees, debris, and power outages Thursday morning after a night of heavy rain and strong winds battered the region.

One of the hardest-hit areas was Forest Hills, Queens, where emergency crews worked late into the night to clear a large tree that had collapsed onto 110th Street and Jewel Avenue.

In nearby Corona, additional trees were downed, creating hazardous conditions. On 37th Road, firefighters responded to a tree leaning dangerously on power lines, raising concerns about potential outages.

In Hillside, New Jersey, a massive tree came crashing down on a home around 3 p.m. Wednesday, tearing a hole in the roof and knocking out electricity.

The homeowner believes lightning may have caused the tree to fall, as the storm brought intense thunder and lightning across the area.

Beyond wind damage, the storm also led to significant flooding in parts of Passaic and Newark, causing delays and hazardous road conditions.

The good news? Thursday’s weather is expected to be much calmer, allowing affected areas to begin cleanup and recovery. Residents are urged to exercise caution as crews work to restore normal conditions.
