Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume has declined an office the Senate Services Committee assigned to him, arguing that it does not match his seniority in the 10th Senate.
In a letter addressed to the committee’s chairman, Senator Sunday Karimi, Ndume emphasized that, according to Senate Standing Orders, he is entitled to an office on the fourth floor, similar to those of his senior-ranking colleagues.
The letter, signed by Ndume’s Chief Confidential Secretary, Yati Shuaibu Gawu, highlighted that office allocation in the Senate is traditionally based on seniority. The letter stated:
“I am directed to inform you that Distinguished Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume has rejected the allocation of office number 3.10 by the Committee. This is because offices are traditionally allocated on a seniority basis. Senator Ndume is the most Senior Senator after Senator Ahmad Lawan and will only occupy an office on the fourth floor.”
This rejection follows recent actions against Senator Ndume, who was removed from his positions as Majority Whip and Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation due to comments perceived as harmful to the party and the administration led by President Bola Tinubu. Additionally, Ndume has also turned down his new appointment as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Tourism.
