Saudi Arabia has officially confirmed the sighting of the crescent moon, marking the beginning of Dhul Hijjah 1446 AH on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. This significant announcement signals the start of the 12th and final month of the Islamic lunar calendar, a period marked by important religious observances.

Following this confirmation, Saudi authorities have declared that the Day of Arafah will be observed globally on Friday, June 6, 2025. Consequently, the Eid Al-Adha festival is set to be celebrated on Saturday, June 7, 2025, as affirmed by the UAE moon-sighting committee.

Dhul Hijjah holds special importance in Islam, being the month during which millions of Muslims perform the Hajj pilgrimage and commemorate Eid Al-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice.

In Nigeria, the Sultanate of Sokoto, led by Sultan Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has yet to release an official statement on the moon sighting. Nigerian Muslims and other communities are expected to await official confirmation before commencing the observances.

Muslims worldwide now prepare to observe these sacred religious events as the dates draw near.
