The House of Representatives Committee on Rivers State Oversight has summoned Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, for an interactive session to address the state’s unfolding political and administrative situation.
The invitation coming just 24 hours after the committee’s inauguration was announced in a statement issued by Akin Rotimi, spokesperson for the House.
Rotimi noted that during its inaugural meeting on Tuesday, the 21-member committee deliberated on recent developments in the state since Ibas assumed office. The move is in line with the committee’s constitutional oversight function under Section 11(4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
House Leader and Committee Chairman, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, underscored the importance of the upcoming session:
“This engagement is necessary to ascertain the true state of affairs in Rivers State and ensure that the House remains properly guided in the discharge of its oversight responsibilities in the public interest.”
Ibas is expected to appear before the committee on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at 4:00 PM in Room 414 of the House of Representatives New Building, National Assembly Complex, Abuja.
According to Rotimi, a formal letter of invitation has already been delivered to the Sole Administrator, and the public disclosure of the invitation reflects the committee’s commitment to transparency, constitutional accountability, and due process.
