This was noted by Lawmakers yesterday when they questioned the minister about the country’s low electrical supply.
Hon. Magaji Da’u Aliyu, the committee’s chairman, and other committee members raised concern over the country’s irregular power supply in recent weeks.
They claim the ministry is treating the power outage like a “fire brigade” and has shown no dedication to resolving the issue.
The chairman, House Committee on Political Affairs, Aishatu Dukku, said “my heart bleeds” because the power outage may not subside anytime soon.
“The permanent secretary said until the end of next year. So that means we will continue to be in total darkness until the end of 2023,” she said.
In his contribution, Sada Soli, a legislator from Katsina State, said the ministry had failed to meet the expectations of Nigerians.
“I don’t think the ministry of power is in charge,” he said.
Mariam Onuoha, from Imo state, said Nigerians need light, not explanation.
Earlier, Aliyu, who was represented by Nebeolisa Anako, permanent secretary of the ministry, said the blackout is caused by the disruption in gas supply to power plants.
He, however, said the outage has started to subside in some areas because the ministry and its partners were working to alleviate the challenges.
