PRP Urges Tinubu to Review Policies as Poverty Deepens

President Bola Tinubu has been urged to reassess his administration’s policies, with the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) calling for urgent action to address rising poverty and economic strain. This appeal, delivered on Tuesday, October 29, was led by PRP National Chairman Falalu Bello, who criticized what he termed a “flawed narrative” behind current policy decisions.

Bello highlighted a disconnect between the government’s policies and the realities faced by Nigerians, urging Tinubu to prioritize actionable, practical solutions. “The population has been asked to endure these difficult times with a promise of relief on the horizon. However, we see no tangible evidence of this assurance in the actions of President Tinubu, his cabinet, or the broader government apparatus,” Bello remarked.

The chairman further criticized what he described as the administration’s “ostentatious lifestyles,” which he argued have drained the economy. He also questioned the allocation of funds from recent subsidy removals and currency devaluation, stating that they have yet to materialize into promised social services.

Bello also noted the negative impact of the last 18 months, citing an increase in the “misery index” and expressing disappointment in the World Bank’s endorsement of these policies. “It is disheartening to hear representatives from the World Bank commend these harmful policies, insisting that they should be sustained for at least fifteen years,” he said.

The PRP’s call emphasizes the urgency for a policy shift focused on alleviating hardship for Nigerians.
