The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had already announced that the 2023 presidential campaign season would start on September 28, 2022.
Section 88 of the Electoral Act of 2022 pegs has restricted presidential candidates to spending no more than N5bn as the campaign season drew near.
Also, the sum an individual or entity can donate to the candidate is N50m.
The Media and Publicity for the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Bayo Onanuga while speaking on the source of the funds in an interview with Punch said their strategy of raising funds for Tinubu’s campaign is not for media consumption.
He noted that the fundraising committee when put in place would be able to answer the question of how the funds were raised.
Atiku Would Increase Campaign Funding In Accordance With The Constitution
When asked how his principle would raise the funds, PDP presidential candidate Paul Ibe, the media adviser, responded that he would do so in accordance with the constitution.
He further stated that the former vice president will comply with whatever provision the Electoral Act and the constitution spell out in raising funds for the campaign.
The Atiku Campaign Council spokesperson, Daniel Bwala, while speaking in the same context noted that the question should be directed toward INEC
Obi Discloses Funding Sources
Onwuasoanya Jones, the spokesman for the Peter Obi Support Network, said that Nigerians have begun donating to the Obidient campaign to realise Peter Obi’s presidential ambition.
He also said that the candidate would not spend up to the N5 billion stipulated by the Electoral Act for the 2023 election.
Jones further stated that Obi’s supporters are working towards raising N1bn for his campaign.
