President Bola Tinubu is set to arrive in Beijing today, September 1, for a key five-day official visit to China, following a brief stop in Dubai.
The visit aims to bolster economic relations and secure new investment opportunities for Nigeria.
According to Presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping to sign several Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) in areas such as green economy, agriculture, satellite technology, media development, blue economic growth, and national planning.
The visit will also include site inspections of major Chinese corporations, including Huawei Technologies and the China Rail and Construction Corporation (CRCC), which are involved in the Lagos to Kano high-speed rail project. Tinubu will engage with CEOs of ten major Chinese firms with assets exceeding $3 trillion USD across sectors like ICT, oil and gas, aluminum, seaport construction, financial services, and satellite technology.
Additionally, Tinubu will participate in the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit from September 4 to 6. As Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, he will address regional and continental security concerns.
Ngelale highlighted the importance of the visit, stating, “President Tinubu’s discussions with Chinese counterparts will deepen cooperation and bring both immediate and long-term benefits to Nigeria’s economy and people, while also tackling key security challenges at the FOCAC Summit.”
